Having a range called Clonal Selection, we often get asked exactly what a clone is – here are a couple of options:
Wine clones are like Dolly the sheep and her clone
Aliens invading Earth with genetically modified Cabernet Sauvignon replacement drinks
Thankfully neither!
Clonal selection is a form of retaining the best surviving, more disease-resistant and most interesting plants. They are also selected for particular nuances or characteristics affecting their aromatic and flavour profiles.
Selecting the best clonal varieties for their terroir and the characteristics of the wine they want to produce is like a chef selecting the best local and seasonal produce to create his menu.
So what does each clone in our Clonal Selection range do? We’ve put together a list of the clones we use and what flavours they bring to our wines – you can download it now and use it as a guide when tasting – click here
